Documents and preparation: Colombia → European Union

Departure is arranged with ICA, and EU entry is reviewed separately. For this non-exempt origin, check a result of at least 0.5 IU/ml from an EU-designated laboratory: sampling at least 30 days after primary vaccination and 90 days before certificate issue. Check the possible re-entry exception for a documented test before leaving the EU and continuous vaccination. If an official EU certificate is needed, schedule issue within ten days of entry checks. A return passport must demonstrate the applicable conditions; it does not automatically replace certification for a first entry.

Arrange the SISPAP Pre CIS and official ICA departure inspection with a registered veterinarian. Issue the departure clinical certificate within the previous five days; coordinate the EU document and its deadlines too.

  • Gather identification, vaccinations, passport and veterinary history. Check microchip readability and consistent details across the travel documents.
  • Check identification before vaccination, valid rabies vaccination and the entry document: official certificate and non-commercial declaration, or an admissible passport for re-entry. Review animal numbers, accompaniment and any breed or age conditions.

Dogs and cats: individual preparation

Species, breed, age, health and carrier dimensions affect the options. We assess PETC in the cabin or AVIH in the hold with an accompanying person on the same flight; the operating airline must accept the animal and itinerary. Where an authorised person travels with the pet, we review their authorisation and its connection with the owner’s journey.

Entry checks and final city

Identify the member state and first authorised EU entry point. For dogs going to Finland, Ireland or Malta, check the specific Echinococcus treatment; it is not a general requirement for every EU country. This guide covers EU member states only. Finland, Ireland and Malta may require Echinococcus treatment for dogs; the final country must be specified.
