Pet travel from France to China

We plan accompanied travel from France to mainland China. We review the one-pet-per-person limit, microchip, vaccinations, antibody test and official certificate, together with the arrival airport and airline acceptance.

In the cabin or aircraft hold

PETC means travel in the cabin; AVIH means travel in the aircraft hold with an accompanying traveller on the same flight. The airline must accept the pet and itinerary.

You can travel with your pet or request a professional companion for the animal. We assess the options and agree what the service includes.

Documents and preparation for entering China

Mainland China allows one dog or cat per person per entry. A microchip, official health certificate from the departure country and rabies vaccination evidence are required; an EU passport alone does not replace the certificate. From Spain, France and Germany, we review the non-designated-country procedure: a GACC-accepted antibody report and arrival examination to seek exemption from isolation. Two previous vaccinations and the sampling date are checked without automatically adding doses to an already valid file.

For departure from France, review documents, laboratory acceptance and official endorsements for mainland China with your vet and the competent authority. Give the city, dates and connections.

  • One dog or cat per traveller per entry; identify the owner, accompanying person and actual number of animals.
  • Readable ISO microchip and matching details in the certificate, vaccination records and laboratory report.
  • Reviewed rabies vaccination history, including two doses and sampling no earlier than the second when preparing a new test.
  • For isolation exemption from non-designated origins: a result above 0.5 IU/ml from a GACC-recognised laboratory; check report validity and boosters.
  • Clinical examination within 14 days before arrival, official certificate, customs declaration, entry port and confirmed airline acceptance.

Dogs and cats: individual preparation

Species, breed, age, health, weight and carrier dimensions affect the options. PETC means travel in the cabin; AVIH means carriage in the conditioned hold on the accompanying traveller’s flight. We propose an option only when the operating airline accepts that animal and itinerary.

Arrival airport and customs checks

Confirm the entry airport with the airline and Chinese Customs first. If isolation is required, the port must have authorised facilities; the general quarantine period is 30 days. Exemption depends on origin, documents and arrival examination, never simply a booking. Give the final city and domestic connections, which may require further procedures. This guide excludes Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan; the map does not confirm a direct flight.

Questions before you travel

Answers to common questions about documents, preparation and accompanied travel.

Can I enter with two pets when travelling alone?

The accompanied-pet entry procedure is limited to one dog or cat per person per entry. Do not book on the assumption that one person may bring two. Tell us about all animals and travellers so a compliant option can be assessed.

Is entry without isolation guaranteed?

No. For non-designated origins, microchip, vaccinations, certificate and a GACC-recognised laboratory report are reviewed, followed by arrival inspection. The authority decides. If isolation is required, entry must be through a port with authorised facilities.

Are an EU passport and one vaccination sufficient?

Do not assume so. An official certificate is prepared and vaccination and testing history are reviewed. For a new test, sampling cannot precede the second vaccination. An existing valid report does not automatically mean another dose is needed: your vet and authority assess it.

Can my pet travel in the cabin or as accompanied checked baggage?

This depends on airline, aircraft, breed, weight and carrier. Some airlines offer AVIH and do not accept ordinary pets in the cabin. PETC is not guaranteed. A passenger seat does not confirm a pet space; we do not offer manifest-cargo transport.

Can the same test cover China and my return?

Only if it meets both systems. China checks the laboratory, vaccinations and its validity window, normally one year from sampling with applicable continuity conditions. EU return also requires its accepted laboratory and timeline. Prepare both directions before departure.
