Pet travel from Germany to Argentina

We plan accompanied travel from Germany to Argentina. Before confirming an itinerary, we review the veterinary certificate or officially endorsed passport, vaccinations, parasite treatments and airline acceptance.

In the cabin or aircraft hold

PETC means travel in the cabin; AVIH means travel in the aircraft hold with an accompanying traveller on the same flight. The airline must accept the pet and itinerary.

Documents and preparation for entering Argentina

For dogs and cats, SENASA accepts an International Veterinary Certificate (CVI) issued, signed and stamped by the veterinary authority of the departure country, with Spanish among its languages. An official passport may also be accepted if it records the required health information and is endorsed by that authority before departure; Spanish or English is accepted. Possessing an EU passport without this official endorsement does not establish compliance.

For departure from Germany, review the certificate or passport and official endorsement with your vet and the Veterinäramt. Give the city, dates and animal’s history.

  • Consistent animal, owner and accompanying-person details; review microchip identification for the itinerary and EU return.
  • Health certificate issued by an authorised veterinarian within the ten days before the CVI is issued.
  • Valid rabies vaccination and at least 21 days before entry after primary vaccination; age or origin exceptions must be confirmed with the authority.
  • Internal and external parasite treatments within the 15 days before CVI issue or passport endorsement, using authorised products with recorded details.
  • CVI or officially endorsed passport, presentation to SENASA, an appropriate carrier and explicit airline acceptance.

Dogs and cats: individual preparation

Species, breed, age, health, weight and carrier dimensions affect the options. PETC means travel in the cabin; AVIH means carriage in the conditioned hold on the accompanying traveller’s flight. We propose an option only when the operating airline accepts that animal and itinerary.

Entry point and final city

Give the intended airport, final city and all connections. SENASA checks documents, physical condition and identity on arrival. A CVI or endorsed passport can cover entry for 60 calendar days from issue or endorsement while rabies vaccination remains valid; this does not replace preparation deadlines or airline requirements. The map does not confirm a direct flight or acceptance at every airport.

Questions before you travel

Answers to common questions about documents, preparation and accompanied travel.

Is an EU passport enough?

Only if it meets Argentina’s health requirements and is signed and stamped by the competent veterinary authority before departure. Otherwise a CVI is prepared. A passport without this official endorsement is not sufficient by itself.

When are the examination and parasite treatments arranged?

SENASA places the health certificate within ten days before CVI issue and internal and external treatments within 15 days before CVI issue or passport endorsement. Departure-authority and airline requirements must also be coordinated.

Does 60-day document validity mean no further checks?

No. Entry validity depends on vaccination and health and does not remove preparation deadlines or airline conditions. Return documents and destination rules are checked separately.

Can my pet travel in the cabin or accompanied in the hold?

We assess PETC or AVIH with an accompanying person on the same flight, subject to size, breed, carrier, airline and airport. A passenger reservation does not confirm space for the pet. We do not offer manifest-cargo transport.

Does the guide cover every Argentine airport?

Provide the airport, final city and connections so actual feasibility and checks can be reviewed. Publication confirms neither a direct flight nor a pet space or acceptance by every carrier.
