Departure is arranged with DIGEGA, and EU entry is reviewed separately. For this non-exempt origin, check a result of at least 0.5 IU/ml from an EU-designated laboratory: sampling at least 30 days after primary vaccination and 90 days before certificate issue. Check the possible re-entry exception for a documented test before leaving the EU and continuous vaccination. If an official EU certificate is needed, schedule issue within ten days of entry checks. A return passport must demonstrate the applicable conditions; it does not automatically replace certification for a first entry.

Prepare departure health documents with the veterinarian and obtain DIGEGA validation. Confirm any applicable COLVET endorsement and departure-port check. Use the current EU model for entry, rather than assuming an old template or Dominican entry document is sufficient.

  • Gather identification, vaccinations, passport and veterinary history. Check microchip readability and consistent details across the travel documents.
  • Check identification before vaccination, valid rabies vaccination and the entry document: official certificate and non-commercial declaration, or an admissible passport for re-entry. Review animal numbers, accompaniment and any breed or age conditions.

Dogs and cats: individual preparation

Species, breed, age, health and carrier dimensions affect the options. We assess PETC in the cabin or AVIH in the hold with an accompanying person on the same flight; the operating airline must accept the animal and itinerary. Where an authorised person travels with the pet, we review their authorisation and its connection with the owner’s journey.

Entry checks and final city

Identify the authorised German entry point and declare the animal to customs. Review breed restrictions and rules in the destination Land; entry through another member state first must be checked separately. For Germany, we review the entry point, final destination and applicable national and local animal restrictions.
