Documents and preparation: Germany → Dominican Republic

Accompanied travel is prepared with official veterinary certification, vaccination history and arrival checks. Coordinate the examination close to departure and vaccination conditions separately from commercial import permits.

Ask your vet and the competent Veterinäramt about the destination certificate, endorsement and appointment. Confirm the document requirements before booking the official visit.

  • Individual health certificate with animal identification and owner details, signed by the veterinarian and endorsed, signed and stamped by the departure country’s official veterinary service. Carry the vaccination record and originals.
  • Schedule the clinical examination within 72 hours before departure under the detailed health instructions. Confirm this window with the authority and veterinarian; a general reference to 30 days does not replace an examination close to travel.
  • Record an inactivated rabies vaccine given within the last 12 months and check the 30-day pre-departure interval. CEXGAN notes an exception for adult dogs with documented boosters; confirm it for the case rather than applying it to every animal.
  • Certify absence of disease signs and internal and external parasite treatments, including manufacturer and active ingredients. Gather vaccination records, batches and dates; check age and origin conditions.
  • Present originals to the animal-health inspector at the arrival point for the import health certificate. Commercial VUCE authorisation is a different regime; confirm classification if this is not personal accompanied travel.

Dogs and cats: individual preparation

Species, breed, age, health, weight and carrier dimensions affect the options. PETC means travel in the cabin; AVIH means carriage in the conditioned hold on the accompanying traveller’s flight. We propose an option only when the operating airline accepts that animal and itinerary.

What should I prepare for the return to the EU?

For this non-exempt origin, check a result of at least 0.5 IU/ml from an EU-designated laboratory: sampling at least 30 days after primary vaccination and 90 days before certificate issue. Check the possible re-entry exception for a documented test before leaving the EU and continuous vaccination. Open the reverse route Dominican Republic → Germany and review its conditions separately. Do not assume that the outbound permit or certificate covers the return.

Can my pet travel in the cabin or accompanied hold?
