Pet travel from South Korea to Spain

We coordinate departure from South Korea and entry into Spain. Identification, rabies vaccination and antibody testing, the health certificate or eligible passport, and APQA export checks are planned before booking.

Documents and preparation for entry into Spain

South Korea is not on the EU lists exempting origins from rabies antibody testing. The ordinary procedure requires a result of at least 0.5 IU/ml from an EU-accepted laboratory. Following primary vaccination, blood is taken at least 30 days later and at least 90 days before the health certificate is issued. A favourable test performed and recorded before leaving the EU can exempt an eligible returning pet from that waiting period; passport eligibility and uninterrupted vaccination must be checked.

For travel to Spain from South Korea, identify the first EU entry point and final city. Coordinate antibody-testing deadlines, the EU certificate or eligible passport and export certification with your vet and APQA before check-in.

  • Microchip verified before rabies vaccination and consistent identity details throughout the file.
  • Valid vaccination; at least 21 days after primary vaccination and a checked sampling and laboratory schedule.
  • Antibody result of at least 0.5 IU/ml from an EU-accepted laboratory; sampling at least 90 days before certification unless a return exemption applies.
  • Current EU health certificate issued or endorsed by the competent authority, valid for ten days until entry checks, or an eligible EU passport; arrange APQA export certification as well.
  • Non-commercial declaration, authorisation where applicable, the owner’s travel within the five-day window, designated first entry point and airline acceptance.

Dogs and cats: individual preparation

Species, breed, age, health and carrier dimensions affect the options. We assess PETC in the cabin or AVIH in the hold with an accompanying person on the same flight; the operating airline must accept the animal and itinerary. Where an authorised person travels with the pet, we review their authorisation and its connection with the owner’s journey.

First EU entry check and final city

Prepare the file for the first EU entry country even if your final destination is elsewhere. Korean export inspection and EU admission are separate procedures. Before check-in, arrange APQA document and clinical checks and the export certificate. A test acceptable for Korea does not automatically meet EU laboratory and timing rules. For Spain, we check the authorised travellers’ entry point and onward travel to Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga or your specified city.

Questions before you travel

Answers to common questions about documents, preparation and accompanied travel.

Is antibody testing required from Korea to the EU?

Yes under the ordinary procedure. South Korea does not have the EU exemption for listed countries. Result, laboratory and timing must be checked; a favourable test performed and recorded before EU departure may qualify for the return exception.

Do I count 90 days to the flight date?

The ordinary minimum is 90 days between blood sampling and issue of the health certificate. Its ten-day validity until EU entry checks must then be coordinated. Counting only to the arrival date is insufficient.

Can my pet return with an EU passport?

It may be used for a return if it records all requirements and remains eligible. Vaccination or testing during the stay may require a certificate instead. APQA’s Korean export certification must also be reviewed.

Can a professional accompany my pet instead of me?

Accompanied options with an authorised person can be assessed. Non-commercial movement requires review of authorisation, no change of ownership, the owner’s travel within the five-day window and the applicable animal-number limit.

Can I book while the documents are being prepared?

First validate the veterinary timeline, APQA appointment and certification, airline pet space and first entry point. A request does not confirm availability or a reservation.
